3 Wheeler Buggies

A three-wheeled buggy is perfect for off-road terrain and offers an easy ride for babies. Fabric slings are placed inside the frame, not on top like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the perfect height. It is simpler to push and lighter to kerb pop (you don't know how many times you will do this as a new parent!).

Seating

This should allow your child plenty of room and headroom.

A fabric sling is also available. It is advantageous in that it is located within the frame, rather than on top as a modular seat. This means that it has a lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, especially over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this style of seat handled obstacles.

This type of buggy comes with a large basket and other features that are useful such as an extended hood with 50+ UV protection, a simple to use brake pedal, and a few innovative lights for visibility that can be positioned in front of occupants for improved safety on difficult terrain.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame is much more sturdy and can be moved by one hand. It's also ideal for terrain that is difficult. The shopping basket is smaller than a four-wheeler.

A good quality ATP will have excellent suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle for your comfort. It will accept a carrycot or car seat, meaning you can use it right from the time of birth.

Choose a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best choice for your future and can help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is among the most well-known. It can be used as early as day dot as a single buggy, and then converted into twin buggies after your baby begins walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's journey more comfortable. You'll find these on pushchairs such as the Phil & Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath found to offer "an outstanding ride for my toddler". She also said that the grippy tyres of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easier for her to maneuver around the kerbs as well as other obstacles.

These tyres can be difficult to maintain and need to have their air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, and you should always have an repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and out and about.

PU tyres are more commonly used on pushchairs because they are less expensive than air-filled tyres but are equally durable. You can tell PU tyres by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide well on smooth and tightly woven surfaces.

If you move your hand over the tyres you can tell if they are rubber or PU. If it feels like it's sliding, then it's a PU. You can also confirm that your buggy is fitted with PU tyres by slipping the tyres on flat, clean surfaces - they'll be able to roll easily and fit snugly in their wheel hubs.

Foam tyres can handle the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. This could make your buggy less stable because the foam will lose its springy nature. These tyres are also noisy because they generate lots of noise when you turn and navigate around the town.
