WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the item upgrade level by +3. A random substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or has a high stat variation (like eth titan weapons). These types of gear get less value from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to Enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader once every few weeks, to keep your equipment up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item level upgrade but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrades, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players through NPCs that sell upgrades to items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased, it can be applied to any weapon or tool with an button, which will show a preview of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example, weapons will cost more than bracers, or gloves. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. After an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available in many places on the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount and a chance to obtain a new upgrade recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning unlike Cromwell from Baldur's gate II. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are available only through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, several new features have been added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same item upgrading level, will cost less. This is even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount is available to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available when certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item level upgrade that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are utilized during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important element of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to equipment that is of a certain rank. Each rank has a different upgrade path. The most basic and straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one requires as many as 20 crests depending on the kind of gear being upgraded.

Players can earn crests through finishing tasks at the appropriate level. This could be done by doing outdoor activities or completing dungeons and raids in any difficulty to earn lower-tier gear or Mythicbosses of raids or dungeons with heroic difficulty for gear in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken, for the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, however it brings some changes to the upgrade process. When a piece attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to upgrade their equipment up to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters, instead of relying only on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests wisely, as they only have one use. For instance, it's best to use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is especially relevant for rings and trinkets that fill multiple slots on the character which can only be eligible to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with top-quality gear.
