How to Repair Bifold Door Top Roller Guide

Remove the Door

Installing an internal set of bifold doors may seem like a complex and challenging task, but it's actually quite easy for DIYers with a little experience. Bifold doors are a complex piece of machinery and, as such, they might need some 'tuning up' to keep working correctly. You can usually resolve these issues by making some minor adjustments without having to take out the doors. The most frequent issue that bifolding doors with internal hinges face is that they slide out of alignment. This could be due to loose screws or holes in the anchor pins or simply a door that isn't aligned properly. Most of the time this can be fixed by a few simple adjustments. However, if your door isn't moving in any way, you might have to replace it.

To remove the door to open it, you'll require a screwdriver and possibly pliers (to help loosen any pins that are tight to pivot). The screwdriver is used to release the locking levers on the bottom of the pivot bracket. The pliers are used to remove the pin.

Once the old guide is removed, carefully cut through the remaining finish over the foot of the new guide with a sharp blade to cut it off from the rod blank. This will make the guide's foot easier to remove and will prevent any damage. The foot is very sharp, and it could cut or snag fingers.

You may have to use some force to remove the guide, but take care not to break or chip the foot. After you've separated the old guide from the rod blank, make sure to remove all of the threads and epoxy remaining in the area where it was attached. This will prevent future problems with the guide.

After removing the old guide, try out your new guide by putting it in its place and applying a few rotations of masking tape or another type of guide tubing to keep it in place. This will allow you to check the guide alignment and spacing to ensure everything is properly set up. If the guide is positioned properly and functions as it should, the last step will be to reinstall the door in its place. Make sure that any screws or pins were removed or loosening must be replaced and tightened correctly after you've finished.

Take the Bottom Pivot off.

They are typically available at your local hardware store in the door section. However they can also be purchased online from several suppliers. In addition to a new top roller guide, you will need a small container of Elmer's wood glue that is available in big box stores, as well as a squeeze clamp. The clamp is used to keep the repair area sealed after the glue has been placed in and dried.
